- Pi Network published its roadmap and strategy this week.
- The document explained where the network was and what to expect.
- It did not answer the question about when the open mainnet will launch.
Pi Network, the blockchain company that seeks to disrupt the entire industry, published its V1 roadmap. The simplified document highlighted the progress so far and what to expect in the coming months.
Pi Network has already completed the first two stages of the roadmap. It has finished the Beta and testnet phases. It is now in the enclosed mainnet, where it has been since December 2021.
The enclosed mainnet is a period where the network is live but with a firewall that prevents any external connectivity. Instead, only dApps connected in the network can communicate and operate in the ecosystem.
The enclosed mainnet period also involves KYC procedures to ensure the integrity of the network. It will then move to the open mainnet, where the network will be opened to the world. In this stage, it will also be possible to connect the network to other blockchains.
Pi Network has made some achievements during this enclosed mainnet period. For example, the developers launched Pi Chats, Fireside Forum, Brainstorm, Pi Browser, and PiNet among others. They have also carried out several hackathons to incentivize developers in the ecosystem.
However, most Pi pioneers are a disappointed lot because of the duration of the enclosed mainnet. As mentioned, the platform moved to this mainnet in December 2021, meaning it is nearing two years.
All this means that pioneers who have thousands of Pi Coins still cannot do anything with them. They cannot shop or convert them into fiat currencies. As such, at least for now, these coins don’t have any value.
Two years is a long time in the crypto and financial services industry. For example, some of the top projects in the industry have been launched in the past few years. For example, Arbitrum, the biggest layer 2 network in the world was launched in 2021. Other platforms like Aptos and Sui were launched recently.
Keep in mind that many pioneers started mining Pi Coins in 2018, meaning they have been in the game for five years.
I believe that the Open Mainnet process will take much longer as the Pi Network team continues making money through advertising in its ecosystem.
