- Kennedy will accept campaign donations in crypto
- He opposes mining tax, concerns over energy use are "exaggerated"
Jack Dorsey, the founder of Twitter and current CEO of Block Inc., is backing pro-crypto Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate in the elections next year, Cointelegraph reported.
Dorsey tweeted that Kennedy Jr. could beat Ron DeSantis and Donald Trump, both of whom represent the Republican Party. He shared a YouTube video initially broadcast on Fox News, in which Kennedy Jr. was explaining how he would top them in the race.
Kennedy is a staunch supporter of digital assets
Robert Kennedy Jr. is the nephew of John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States. He is one of many Kennedy dynasty members who have run for office. He is openly against vaccines and an environmental lawyer by profession.
Most relevantly, Robert Kennedy Jr. is a staunch supporter of crypto. He told visitors at the Bitcoin Miami Conference in a speech this year he would accept donations in the flagship crypto for his presidential campaign.
Bitcoin has great potential, but CBDC is a risk
According to him, Bitcoin is an innovative tool with great potential. He has been outspokenly critical of Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs), however, claiming they entailed a risk of “magnifying the government’s power to stifle dissent by instantaneously restricting access to funds.”
Robert Kennedy Jr. was against the Biden administration’s planned crypto mining tax as well. The administration proposed a hefty 30% tax on the energy used to mine crypto. According to him, concerns over the use of energy for mining are somewhat exaggerated.
A recent poll by Fox News showed 16% of Democratic voters support Kennedy Jr., which is quite a few for a primary challenger against a president of the same party.
DeSantis also supports crypto
As Bankless Times wrote, Republican candidate Ron DeSantis said during a Twitter space with Elon Musk that if the current regime stayed in power for another four years, they’d “kill Bitcoin.”
