Former FLOTUS Melania Trump is the latest public figure to join NFT craze. On Thursday, December 16, she announced plans to begin selling her artworks in the form of non-fungible tokens. In a statement, Mrs. Trump said:
I am proud to announce my new NFT endeavor, which embodies my passion for the arts and will support my ongoing commitment to children through my Be Best initiative.
Be Best is an initiative to support children aging out of the foster care system. The Guardian reported that a portion of the proceeds would go toward this cause. Mrs. Trump did not clarify where the rest of the money would go.
Trump NFTs deployed on Solana
In a press release, Mrs. Trump said she would launch her NFT platform on the Solana blockchain, adding she would use MoonPay to process credit card and cryptocurrency payments. MoonPay denied any partnership with Melania Trump. The platform told Forbes they had never been contacted by anyone associated with Trump, saying MoonPay “has no official role in the effort”.
Details of the token
Melania Trump’s first NFT is called “Melania’s Vision”. Her office issued the following statement:
It is a breathtaking watercolor art by Marc-Antoine Coulon, and embodies Mrs. Trump’s cobalt blue eyes, providing the collector with an amulet to inspire.
The breathtaking art will be available for sale on her website until the end of this year. It also includes a 10-second audio message from ex-FLOTUS.
Solana has become top choice for NFT players
This is Melania’s first public initiative since leaving the White House. The NFT is currently selling for one Solana, equivalent to $182 as per today’s price. The Solana blockchain, a strong Ethereum rival, has been one of the top choices for NFT industry members.
It’s giving Ethereum a run for its money due to its low gas fees and high transaction speed. Many people launching DeFi and NFTs have been opting for Solana.
Joining a roster of NFT-promoting celebrities
Melania Trump joins a roster of celebrities who have dived into the NFT industry, which includes popular personalities from different areas like Grimes, Paris Hilton, and John Cena.
Earlier this year Jamaican athlete Usain Bolt, Argentinian footballer Lionel Messi, and American football player Tom Brady introduced NFT collections.
Grimes isn’t the only musician to have tapped the market. Singer Justin Bieber and K-pop group BTS have also joined.
