American actress and producer Reese Witherspoon is doubling down on her NFT commitment through Hello Sunshine, a media company she co-founded in 2016. Specifically, the company has partnered with the Ethereum-based NFT project World of Women (WoW) to develop feature films and television series based on the digital collectibles in the collection.
World of Women announced this news through a tweet earlier today, saying,
This major partnership signs a new beginning for WoW: Feature films, scripted and unscripted TV series, live events, powerful stories. We couldn’t have dreamed of a better partner than @hellosunshine @ReeseW to bring our vision to life.
Explaining why Hello Sunshine decided to join hands with World of Women, Witherspoon said the project’s focus on women aligns with the firm’s mission.
She added,
While the crypto and NFT space is largely dominated by men, there are inspiring leaders like World of Women creating incredible communities for women during this massive shift for media and technology.
Notably, Witherspoon sold a majority stake in Hello Sunshine to Blackstone-backed Candle Media for $900 million in August last year. She, however, remains on the company’s board.
The quick rise of WoW
Created by Yam Karkai, WoW is a collection of 10,000 profile picture (PFP) NFTs. The collection has quickly become popular, with renowned women, including Witherspoon and actress Eva Longoria using WoW NFTs as their Twitter display pictures for over a month now. This support makes WoW is the most successful female-focused NFT collection by far.
According to data from leading NFT marketplace OpenSea, the collection has a floor price of 10 Ether (ETH) or approximately $29,000. Secondary sales of the NFTs have exceeded 53,000 ETH (about $155 million). This volume makes WoW the 21st-largest NFT collection on OpenSea.
At moment, around 5,100 people own NFTs in this collection. Per Witherspoon, these holders will get an opportunity to get involved in the development and production process of the new media projects.
Although NFTs have made headlines, not a single collection has successfully gone mainstream with TV and film features. By partnering with Hello Sunshine, WoW could become the pioneer in this field, creating a gateway for other NFT collections to enter Hollywood.
