News agency The Associated Press is presenting a collection of non-fungible tokens on Binance’s marketplace, according to a Binance press release. The release states:
The Binance NFT Marketplace is thrilled to announce the launch of “The AP Unique Moments” Premium NFT Collection from 2021-10-19 12:00 PM (UTC) to 2021-10-26 12:00 PM (UTC)! This unique collection is specially curated by MetaList Lab which has been authorized by the Associated Press, an independent global news organization. Each NFT features Associated Press’s most important news over the past 100 years, spotlighting an array of milestones in space, global conflicts, science and more.
Collection features digitized versions of photos and reports
The collection, which is called “Unique Moments,” features digitized photo and news report versions based on the world agency’s reporting on historical moments in the 20th century. Examples include the discovery of Pluto, Nelson Mandela’s inauguration, and Japan’s WWII surrender. Each NFT, which will be available as a mystery box, costs BUSD 29 (Binance USD, the exchange’s own stablecoin).
Four different rarity levels
The collection features four different rarity levels: normal, rare, super rare, and super super rare. Users who collect one item in each of the first three categories, but also don’t sell their items until 11:59PM UTC on Oct. 25, will be eligible to win another NFT from AP’s collection. Each Binance user can purchase up to 25 mystery boxes. The collection is expected at noon UTC on Thursday.
The curator of the collection, Metalist Lab, announced the news on October 8. The Australian NFT publisher has a history of esteemed partnerships, such as with Chinese gaming giant NetEase.
AP’s previous major NFT launch was in March
In March, the AP sold an NFT artwork on OpenSea for the equivalent of $180,000 in Ethereum. It was titled “The Associated Press calls the 2020 Presidential Election on Blockchain – A View from Outer Space” and commemorated the first US election called on the blockchain. AP announced the winner via an ETH address.
The NFT was a one-time, unique edition displaying a visual of the electoral college map from space. It used data from the elections, which was published by AP on-chain at the time. Other influential media, such as The New York Times, have also sold NFTs. Binance launched its NFT marketplace in June this year.
