  • The museum currently features 54 NFTs based on the first three days of the attack.
  • Per the museum’s website, the NFTs will drop on March 30, and sales will be in ETH.
  • The Ukrainian government aims to use the sale’s proceeds to support its army and citizens.

Ukraine’s Ministry of Digital Transformation has created an online non-fungible token (NFT) museum to document major events of its war with Russia. Mykhailo Fedorov, the Minister of Digital Transformation, unveiled this news through a tweet on March 25. Reportedly, the museum will showcase the Ukrainian perspective of the war.

Fedorov’s tweet read,

While Russia uses tanks to destroy Ukraine, we rely on revolutionary blockchain tech. @Meta_History_UA NFT-Museum is launched. The place to keep the memory of war. And the place to celebrate the Ukrainian identity and freedom. Check here: metahistory.gallery/warline.

The NFTs in the museum feature events from 5:45 AM (local time) on February 24 when Russia’s President, Vladimir Putin, announced an alleged special military operation in the Donbas region of Ukraine. He then launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine 13 minutes later.

At the time of writing, the museum’s website features 54 NFTs, with the latest piece being of the third day of the attack, February 26. The collection comprises various events and sources, ranging from Twitter posts from government officials and photos from news outlets to the response of global leaders.

The sale of these NFTs commences on March 30, and supporters will need to pay in Ethereum (ETH). Funds obtained from this sale will go toward Ukraine’s army and citizens.

The museum seeks to counter false news from Russia

Apart from raising funds for its armed forces and citizens, Ukraine seems to be using its NFT museum to oppose Russian media. Since Russia invaded Ukraine, its local media has been widely bashed for spreading false information. The NFT museum stated spreading truthful information in the digital community across the globe as part of its mission.

Ukraine’s NFT efforts come after it canceled plans for an unspecified token airdrop, which sought to give back to the crypto community for its support.

While the country did not specify why it abandoned the token airdrop, Fedorov said an increasing number of people are willing to help Ukraine fight back against Russia. To this end, it chose to launch an NFT collection that would go toward supporting the Ukrainian armed forces.

This news comes as the crypto community continues supporting Ukraine, with the country receiving donations worth over $108 million in its government, relief, and charity wallets. Apart from individual donors, leading organizations like Kraken, Binance, and Yuga Labs’ NFT collection, Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC).
