Chainlink Functions and VRF (Verifiable Random Function) are now live on Soneium. As part of their membership in the Chainlink Scale Program, which provides them low-cost access to all of Chainlink’s services, they have integrated with Chainlink VRF and Functions.

This ensures that Soneium can manage complex dApps while simplifying the onboarding process for developers and users.

What are Chainlink VRF and Functions?

Random number generators (RNGs) like Chainlink VRF ensure that blockchain applications always use random numbers safely and openly. This RNG differentiates itself by using encryption and independent oracle networks to guarantee truly random results.

VRF enables anyone to independently verify its authenticity and unpredictability on-chain because cryptographic proof accompanies each random value generated.

The feature enhances Soneium’s ability to support use cases like gaming and gambling, NFT marketplaces, and DeFi protocols while maintaining trust and security across its ecosystem.

Furthermore, Functions bridge the gap between blockchain applications and real-world data by enabling developers to connect their smart contracts directly with off-chain data sources, APIs, and computation.

Why the Integration Matters

Developers building on Soneium can now access tools that simplify the development process while expanding the scope of potential use cases. For example, Chainlink VRF provides provably fair randomness, while Chainlink Functions offers seamless off-chain connectivity.

Some use cases include building NFT marketplaces that utilize VRF for trait randomization, creating DeFi protocols reliant on off-chain financial data obtained through Functions, and developing multiplayer blockchain games with fair matchmaking powered by verifiable randomness.

However, developers need LINK tokens to start and fund their interactions with these services.

For developers and businesses aiming to leverage blockchain technology while addressing real-world challenges, Soneium’s scalability, combined with Chainlink’s robust tools, provides an unparalleled opportunity.
