Popular on-chain analyst ZackXBT has criticized the current trend of AI agent tokens.
In an X (formerly Twitter) post, ZackXBT berated the current AI token narrative, calling them worse than Meme coins.
This criticism comes in response to Justin Taylor, another cryptocurrency commentator, who questioned the necessity of tokens for AI agents.
Justin has previously expressed skepticism about web3 games and NFTs.

ZachXBT’s position on AI Agents aligned with an anonymous survey of Solana founders. Most Solana founders voted for AI agents and Blinks as the most over-hyped sectors within the Solana ecosystem, with Restaking and Decentralized Science (DeSci) trailing closely behind
The AI agent trend, which began in late 2024, has been a focal point this year. With a market cap of $16.8 billion and over $2 billion in daily trading volume, it is often compared to meme coins, another informal phenomenon.
Dragonfly Founder and Open AI’s Sam Altman Believe in AI Tokens
Haseeb Qureshi, the founder of Dragonfly, in his 2025 prediction for the crypto market, also acknowledged the potential of AI agent tokens. He believes these tokens can be integrated into various narratives, from AI-powered static analysis to more on-chain experimentation. However, like ZackXBT, he is skeptical about the long-term prospects of this technology and believes it is a fad that will likely not spill into 2026.
Sam Altman of OpenAI, in a Jan 6 blog, also shared his thoughts on AGI and AI Agents. He believes AI agents could be workforce-ready by 2025, and could alter the way businesses operate.
