All factory-reset and new Android devices sold in the European Union and the United Kingdom will be equipped with Presearch by default. According to a recent Cointelegraph report cited by Yahoo Finance, the decentralized search engine’s inclusion took effect on September 1, 2021.

EC levies EUR 4.24B fine on Google for limiting competition on Android

The decision comes in the wake of an extensive legal battle with the European Commission, which accused Alphabet Inc. of establishing and sustaining dominance of Google through its Android mobile operative system. The EC levied a whopping fine of EUR 4.24 billion on Google for limiting competition on the Android platform. Google announced it would allow other search engines to work on its devices in 2019.

A more reliable search platform that rewards users

Presearch is purported to get better results, allow private searches, and give rewards. It’s based on the blockchain and will be available along with other search engines on EU and UK devices. Allegedly, Presearch processes more than 1 million searches by more than 2.3 million registered users and search volume has tripled since the beginning of 2021. Network node operators process all searches and Presearch’s ETH-based tokens compensate the node operators for their work.

The price of Presearch’s native token, PRE, has risen by more than 91% over the last 24 hours according to CoinMarketCap data.

The Presearch team describes their product as follows:

“We believe that the best way to compete with the massive, centralized and monopolistic corporation that currently dominates search is to build a framework that enables people from all over the world to collaborate to build an open and decentralized search engine. This search engine should reward those who contribute to its success, and leverage blockchain technology and cryptocurrency to align the interests of all of its stakeholders. By becoming increasingly accountable and transparent, Presearch will earn the trust of its community, attracting many of the best and brightest to the project in the process.”

Community members can contribute open source packages to Presearch’s source code repository. The platform is getting ready to launch its first decentralized technology, offering world-class search results. Their searches also give access to an extra layer of data through community packages.

Privacy protection

Apart from guaranteeing better results, Presearch protects user privacy. It neither stores searches nor tracks a user’s browsing history. The decentralized node server network, which disposes of anonymized requests, handles all queries.
