- Pi Network launched the PiOS earlier this week.
- The OS will make it easier for developers to build and share code.
- There are concerns about whether the Pi coin will ever launch.
Pi Coin has continued being a mirage for millions of miners as its mainnet launch remains elusive. The developers have continued building the ecosystem, with the number of dApps in its ecosystem rises. A key concern among members of the community is whether the coin will ever move from an enclosed mainnet.
Pi Network is growing
Pi Coin is a cryptocurrency that was launched by the Pi Network in 2018. It is a coin that seeks to change the cryptocurrency industry completely. One way it is achieving this is by letting people mine the coin using their smartphones. As such, the developers are targeting a large user base since there are now over 4 billion smartphone users around the world.
Another goal is to create a full ecosystem around the Pi Network. We have already seen several dApps in this ecosystem. For example, the developers recently launched Fireside Forum, a social network for the members of the community.
Further, the developers launched a mobile browser that has been downloaded by millions of people. They recently launched Pi Converter, a tool that makes it possible for people to convert their Pi Coins into their local currencies. There are tens of more dApps in the ecosystem.
The developers also launched the Pi Open Source (PiOS) this week, which is built to encourage creators to share their code. As a result, Pi dApps can be used and tested by over 45 million community members. The statement added:
“PiOS has allowed Pi community developers to not only build extraordinary Pi apps but also contribute to the development efforts of other Hackathon participants.”
Will the Pi Coin ever launch?
While the Pi Network is growing, the concern among many people is whether the network will move from the enclosed mainnet. In other words, Pi coin holders are worried whether they will be able to cash out their holdings.
These concerns are valid since Pi Network is not new. The network was launched in 2018, meaning that it is now in its fifth year. 5 years is a lot of time in the crypto and financial market.
Think of everything that has happened in the past five years. For one, many cryptocurrencies have been launched in this period and some are thriving. The same is true for the stock market, where many shares have more than doubled.
My working thesis is that Pi Coin will not be launched any time soon since the network is making its founders a lot of money through advertising. As I wrote here, Pi’s apps make money through advertisements.
