  • If the plans come to fruition, OpenAI will become the most valuable US startup after SpaceX
  • No company representatives have made official statements or announcements

AI startup and developer company OpenAI is in talks with investors who are considering investing over $100 billion in the firm’s groundbreaking activity, insiders told Bloomberg according to a recent report. They added the interested parties took part in preliminary discussions against the backdrop of an overall increase in funding within the AI industry.

If the plans come to fruition, OpenAI will become the most valuable US startup after SpaceX. It is also in talks for billions from G42 for a chip venture, Bloomberg added.

Terms, valuation, timing unclear

The AI company’s funding round has not been finalized yet. No details have emerged surrounding the valuation, terms, and timing.

What’s more, no company representatives have made official statements or announcements. Reinstated OpenAI CEO Sam Altman remains notably silent about the funding round on social media. Recently, he posted on X that people started taking an interest in AI this year.

Worldcoin got $100M in funding round

This news follows reports, according to which OpenAI is working on its own AI startup investments. In May 2023, Bankless Times cited a Financial Times report, which stated that OpenAI was in the final stages of negotiating an agreement to secure $100 million of funding for Worldcoin, a project created to distinguish humans from bots. According to FT, the funds would be sourced from “existing and new investors.”

OpenAI invests $15M in AI startup program

In December, OpenAI finished its application for the second series of its six-week AI startup program, Converge 2. The total funding for the program was $15 million. 15 qualifying startups will get $1 million each.

Converge 1 took place in November 2022. In this initiative, OpenAI granted 12 applicants $1 million each to invest in their AI programs.

It has been the year of AI without a doubt. In related news, French AI startup Mistral AI closed a $415 million funding round to continue its development of generative AI tools, customizable features, and chatbots.
