Us Vice President and the Democratic party presidential candidate Kamala Harris’ campaign is reportedly accepting crypto donations. While Harris herself is not directly involved, her campaign is receiving funds in crypto via a Political Action Committee (PAC).
According to a report by Fortune, Alesia Haas, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Coinbase has confirmed that Future Forward, an official PAC of Kamala Harris, is using Coinbase Commerce.
Coinbase commerce is a special offering from the world’s leading exchange. It is designed for merchants who want to receive payments from their customers in crypto. The entire process is decentralised. After receiving the payments, the merchants can sell the crypto assets for a fiat currency of their choice. Clients can pay in BTC or ETH.
In their response to whether Kamala Harris was using the platform for crypto donations, mincing no words, Haas said: “She is accepting crypto donations. She’s using Coinbase Commerce now to accept crypto for her own campaign.”
Global news agency, Reuters, have also confirmed that they have received an email from Coinbase which stated: “Coinbase can confirm that the Future Forward PAC has onboarded with Coinbase Commerce to accept crypto donations.”
Reportedly, Future Forward PAC has raised millions of dollars for Harris’ campaign. But so far, there has been no official statement from the Harris’ campaign concerning crypto donations. It is not clear whether Kamala Harris or senior democrat leaders were aware of such arrangements for crypto donations.
Harris Yet To Clear Her Stand On Crypto Regulations
When it comes to crypto regulations, Kamala Harris seems to be sitting on the fence with no clear stand. On the other hand, her opponent Donal Trump is championing the cause of crypto enthusiasts and investors.
The Trump campaign has not only been vocal in support of crypto regulations, but they are also backing a crypto project called World Liberty Financial. The project has been endorsed by Donald Trump.
With the elections nearing, and the fact that now Kamala Harris’ campaign is using crypto no longer being a secret, we can expect a more detailed response from the Democrat candidate.
According to Polymarkets predictions for US election results, Donald Trump is now leading by 6 points.
