- Shaq had been hiding from the process servers for the past three months
- Thomas Brady, Gisele Bundchen, Stephen Curry, and Kevin O'Leary are among the defendants
Basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal, who endorsed FTX in a commercial, was served in a class-action lawsuit in the case of bankrupt crypto exchange FTX, Moskowitz law firm tweeted on Sunday. The firm is representing the plaintiffs. They posted:
Shaq tried to run and hide from servers
The lawyers from the firm claimed Shaq had been trying to hide and run from their process servers for the past three months. They reported that he tried to run away when they came to serve him with the papers outside his Atlanta home and a chase ensued, CoinDesk reported.
Previously, the plaintiffs’ lawyers tried to provoke a reaction from O’Neal by leaving comments on his social media, including Instagram and Twitter. They filed a motion with a judge to allow O’Neal to be served electronically, but it was denied.
The attorneys for the plaintiffs expressed relief that the basketball legend had finally been served.
Thomas Brady, Gisele Bundchen among defendants
A former FTX customer from Oklahoma, Edwin Garrison, filed the case in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. It is being handled by attorneys Adam Moskowitz and David Boies.
A slew of celebrities such as Thomas Brady, Gisele Bundchen, Stephen Curry, and Kevin O’Leary are among the defendants, who also include Golden State Warriors LLC and, of course, Sam Bankman-Fried.
Shaq starred in an FTX commercial, in which he was dubbed “Shaqtoshi.” When FTX collapsed, he took no responsibility for his contribution, saying he had only been “a paid spokesperson for a commercial.” He has also endorsed a number of NFT projects.
