It is not unusual for cryptocurrency newcomers to outperform established industry giants. However, it IS unusual for those newcomers in question to be rodents! In this case, the newcomer is a hamster, who has been trading crypto since June 2021. The trading hamster has managed to outperform Warren Buffet’s holding company (Berkshire Hathaway) and the S&P 500 index, among others throughout the short span of his trading career.

The hamster’s name is Mr Goxx. Mr Goxx is known for trading in crypto whilst running on a hamster wheel, as can be seen in the live streams on his popular Twitch account. The wheel doubles as a trading office which allows Mr Goxx to select certain assets to trade.

The crypto-trading hamster decides whether to buy or sell a selected asset by entering one of the tunnels that are placed inside of his cage. The decisions made by the rodent are then transmitted to a real trading platform through an application programming interface (API), managed by the hamster’s owner.

Once the decisions have been made, the trades are published to Mr Goxx’s Twitter account, which was set up by his owner and has been providing updates on the hamster’s trading activities since June 12.

One of the account’s latest tweets reads, “Mr Goxx placed a sell order for 36.0 XRP at 29.24 EUR (-25.59 %).”

Mr Goxx has a preference for working night shifts, one tweet reads, “Mr Goxx has concluded his office hours for tonight with 1 order(s) placed. Career Performance: +63.27 EUR (+19.41%)”.

This performance result places the hamster ahead of both Berkshire Hathaway and the S&P 500 index in the same period, raising questions over the rodents potential superiority over humans in terms of their investment strategies.

Berkshire Hathaway has struggled recently with the stock’s value dropping from USD 430,282 on June 11 to USD 418,101 on September 24. The S&P 500 index saw more positive results over this time period, rising from 4,247.44 on June 11 to 4,455.48 on September 24. This success still placed the S7P 500 index behind Mr Goxx’s performance.

According to the Swiss asset manager, Protos, Mr Goxx started his trading career with around 390 USD and currently trades around 30 different crypto assets. Mr Goxx’s owner told Protos, “Mr Goxx is happy to see that some of his investments finally pay off.” Adding, “Since Mr. Goxx is an honorable business rodent, he must calculate with about 35% tax being subtracted on all his returns, so there is still some work left before he can really talk about making money.”
