Digital asset platform Bakkt Holdings Inc. has announced that users will be able to use the platform to buy and sell Ethereum (ETH). Users will also be able to use the platform to send Ethereum to friends, directly through the Bakkt app.

Etheruem will join Bitcoin, which is already offered on the platform. This will give users access to two major crypto assets that represent more than half of the total value of all cryptocurrencies.

The CEO of Bakkt, Gavin Michael, spoke about the move saying, “Bakkt users have already enjoyed the app’s capabilities to leverage bitcoin and we are confident that our addition of Ethereum will be a complement to our growing ecosystem of partners and assets.”

Bakkts Ethereum offering comes at a time of growing crypto interest. The company carried out a U.S Consumer Crypto Survey which found that nearly half of respondents had bought some form of cryptocurrency within the last year. Many of those who were yet to buy the asset expressed interest in investing before the end of 2021.

Michael explained, “At Bakkt, providing flexible opportunities for users to enjoy their digital assets is a top consideration, and adding Ethereum brings a popular and growing cryptocurrency to our roster.”

Over the past year, Ethereum has grown considerably in size. It is now the second largest crypto asset after Bitcoin. By giving users access to Ethereum, Bakkt facilitates the flow of digital commerce in line with the company’s mission of connecting the digital economy.

Bakkt’s platform is available through the Bakkt app. The platform offers a number of loyalty programs and opportunities to its users, with a mission to increase digital asset adoption. The company was launched in 2018, making it a fairly new player in the cryptocurrency market.
